Tuberculosis case confirmed at local Macon daycare

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – There is a confirmed care of Tuberculosis in middle Georgia.

Health Officials confirm a 9 month old has the disease. The child attends daycare at Neighborhood Academy in Macon. Officials said there are three pending cases of TB and it’s possible that they’re related.

Dr. David Harvey, District Health Director, said it’s possible that it could have been a daycare worker that worked within the academy.

The investigative team said the source of the disease is unknown for now, but everyone at Neighborhood Academy will be given a skin test within the next few days.

Even though they’re carefully investigating this case, they assured everyone there is no need to panic.

Beverlyn Ming, Bibb County Nurse Manager, said the baby is taking medication and once a patient is taking medication, there is no danger.

Health Officials are confident all the children at the daycare are not affected.

The director of Neighborhood Academy said parents aren’t panicking. They’re educating themselves on the disease. Both the director and the investigative team advise everyone to do the same.

The director told us the baby is in good spirits and good health.
