Three charged in Crawford County dog fighting ring

ROBERTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office busted a dog fighting ring.

Sheriff Lewis Walker tells 41NBC 28-year-old Robert Durham, 22-year-old John Cail, and 25-year-old Jeffery Armstrong were arrested on New Year’s day. They’re charged with six counts of cruelty to animals and two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

Walker says deputies went to a building on Hopewell Road East Thursday. He adds several people scattered from the building. Deputies found two dead pit bulls.

Seven bulldogs and two bulldog puppies were confiscated.

“They also found another building where a ring was used where they fought the dogs at,” Walker said. “It wasn’t clear to us that the two dogs were in a fight or if they were beaten with an object that we took into evidence.”

The sheriff says the investigation is ongoing. More charges are pending.
