Tanner Gordon joins Mercer baseball staff

MACON, Ga. (MERCER ATHLETICS RELEASE) – Mercer University baseball coach Craig Gibson announced that Tanner Gordon will be joining the Bears’ coaching staff as a volunteer assistant for the 2015 season.

“We are really excited that Tanner Gordon has joined our coaching staff,” Gibson said. “He competed at a high level and brings an abundance of knowledge to the position, having worked with some outstanding coaches at very successful programs. Tanner will assist the program in all areas from recruiting great student athletes to monitoring our study hall program.”

Gordon comes to Mercer from Middle Georgia College, where he served as an assistant coach. He helped guide the Knights to a 38-15 record in 2014, while overseeing the development of Second Team Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association outfielder Drew Taylor.

Prior to his time at Middle Georgia, Gordon served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Andrew College. At Andrew, he worked primarily with the catchers and pitching staff while also assisting with field maintenance and travel arrangements.

A four-sport athlete at Macon’s Windsor Academy, Gordon was a two-year letterwinner at Auburn-Montgomery after transferring from Andrew College. He went on to pitch for one season in the Arizona Developmental Independent Baseball League.
