State Senator Burt Jones says Milledgeville, Baldwin unification ‘up to the people’
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Milledgeville city council members want to make sure they’re represented when state lawmakers meet next week.
Leaders ate lunch with state Senator Burt Jones (R-District 25) to talk transportation, what will happen to Central State Hospital, and the likelihood of the city and Baldwin County merging.
Jones says a vote on unification should be up to the people.
“I’m not for or against it because I don’t have a vote in it when it gets on a ballot. So letting the people decide on the future of their community is something that I think they’re the same ones who put you in office, so you better trust their judgment,” Jones said.
If a unification bill is introduced this year, Jones says he and State Representative Rusty Kidd will carry it. The lawmakers adds it’s their responsibility to see it through.
