State Representative Bentley “exhausted” after threats made towards home in Butler
It all started with a phone call late in the night…
It was State Representative Patty Bentley’s son, warning her to get her and her family out of the house, because someone wanted to “shoot it up.”
“That was so frightening for me to hear, especially for me and my neighbors,” Bentley said.
Bentley went into panic mode, turning off lights and immediately calling authorities.
She says her son was arguing with an aquaintance earlier, and the man threatened to come to the house.
Both the Reynolds Police Department and the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene within in minutes…
“They are looking into all of the aspects of this situation, and they will continue to follow their leads. I appreciate the support and help from our local law enforcement,” Bentley said.
Bentley told 41NBC’s Skyler Henry she was exhausted and a little nervous to actually stay in the neighborhood. She says she wants some help as quickly as possible.
The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office is upping their patrols in the area, some officials say they want the GBI to step in.
“Some of my colleagues at the House of Representatives, had been made aware of the incident, and they are very concerned for my safety as well as my family and my neighbors,” Bentley said.
Bentley says she’s concerned about the bigger picture, adding violence shouldn’t be the option for going about situations.
“I just want people to know, especially our young people, to know and understand that you cannot take your anger out on other people by using a gun. You know that’s why we have law enforcement, if you’re having issues about anything, turn to law enforcement, they’ll be willing to help you,” Bentley said.
She’s hoping something gets done for her and her family’s safety.
“I just…I don’t want to have to go through that again, and I don’t want to see anyone else have to deal with such a situation,” Bentley said.
A Taylor County Chief Deputy told 41NBC it’s early on this investigation, but the sheriff’s department is making a conscious effort to patrol Bentley’s neighborhood more frequently.
