Southwest and Washington County first round bound after mini-playoff

DEXTER, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Washington County and Southwest are going to the playoffs, and Bleckley County is going home.

The three teams met in a “mini-playoff”  at West Laurens’ Horseshoe Stadium Monday to break a three-way tie for third place in Region 3-AA.

Two games. Two five minute periods. Winners advance.

Southwest beat Washington County with a walk-off touchdown pass in the first game. Trailing 3-0 and facing 4th and long with four seconds left in regulation, Jordan Slocum connected with Montez Askew in the end zone as time expired to lift the Patriots to the 6-3 win.

Washington County got another chance to advance in the second game against Bleckley County.

The Golden Hawks and Royals finished regulation scoreless and went to overtime. Both teams made field goals to force a second overtime.

Preston Daniels found Jeremiah Swint in the end zone to give Washington County a 9-3 lead. The extra point made it 10-3.

Bleckley County would then score on the first play of its possession on a 15-yard run by Nykeem Farrow, but the extra point was blocked by the Golden Hawks’ Dyquan Bloodsaw.
