Smith says he’s going to UCLA before reopening recruitment

MONTEZUMA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Roquan Smith dug around in a duffel bag for what seemed like an eternity before standing up and revealing baby blue football gloves featuring UCLA’s logo.

The Macon County senior chose the Bruins over UGA on national television Wednesday morning, but minutes later, he wasn’t so sure.

“I haven’t sent my papers in yet, but just throughout the day, if it feels like home like it does now, then I’m going to just roll with it,” he told 41NBC’s Tucker Sargent after saying he wasn’t sure when he woke up if he’d pick Georgia or UCLA.

Later in the day, Smith decided to reopen his recruitment.

Five others know where they’ll play

The crowds no doubt came for Smith’s announcement, but they also got to watch five other players sign to play in college.

Jerquez Hughey will play for Air Force. Joseph Daniels will play for GMC in Milledgeville. Jaqwan Roberts and Quinton Harrison will both play for Lincoln University in Nebraska and Devontae Hudson will play for Garden City Community College in Kansas.

“I just thank God for allowing me to come to this place,” says Larry Harold, who coached at MCHS from 2012-2014 before taking the head coach job at Brunswick. “And allowing us to bless these kids to get a free education to go on to better themselves as young men.”
