Scattered storms likely over the weekend as another stationary front sticks around
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A lingering cold front will bring continued opportunities for scattered storms this weekend, especially on Saturday.
This Evening
It’s been a mostly cloudy day to finish the work week and that will continue through this evening and tonight. A few showers and a storm or two will be possible through this evening. A couple of showers will also be possible overnight. Temperatures will valley in the low to mid 70s accompanied by light and variable winds. Some patchy fog will be possible leading through the sunrise on Saturday as well.
Tomorrow
The first half of the weekend will continue the cloudier trend as temperatures peak in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Scattered showers and storms should begin around lunchtime with peak activity likely in the late afternoon and evening. Organized severe activity is not expected however the most intense storms may bring a couple of damaging wind gusts or small hail. The wind will flow from the west-northwest at 5-12 mph with gusts reaching upwards of 20 mph.
Overnight will be partly cloudy and muggy with a chance for a few showers early on. Fog will be possible leading into Sunday morning. Temperatures will drop into the low to mid 70s accompanied by light wind from the west around 5 mph.
Sunday and Beyond
The rain odds should be a bit lower Sunday as temperatures will mostly eclipse 90 degrees in the afternoon. A bit more sun is also likely Sunday which should lead to many heat indexes reaching around 100 degrees. Isolated storms will be possible through the afternoon and the evening with around half the region receiving rain.
Temperatures still look to heat up into the new week with dropping rain odds, however the confidence in triple digit actual highs is dropping. Still, those enjoying the outdoors for the final week before school returns should make sure to stay hydrated and wear sunblock.
