Restaurant Report Card: Joy’s Home Cooking Buffet
“The food’s awesome, it’s all home cooked food,” said customer Jimmy Pierson.
Joy’s Home Cooking Buffet even smells like good memories.
But first, a restaurant that can step it up this week.
Ginger Stir Fry and Grill at 496 Second Street in downtown Macon scored a 65.
The person in charge did not demonstrate knowledge of proper health requirements, some noodles were not stored at a cool enough temperature, and some of the rice in the rice cooker wasn’t hot enough.
Plus, some of the bottles with different cooking liquids weren’t labeled.

Nothing beats a good, home cooked meal, right?
That’s what you’re bound to get at Joy’s Home Cooking Buffet at the corner of Tom Hill and Riverside Drive in Macon.
“You’re going to get butter beans, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn bread, like you would at home,” said Pierson.
Server Justin Copeland wants to put the home in home cooking.
“About everything you can think of,” said Copeland.
And you know Mama’s other specialty: Making sure the house gets a 100 on its health inspection.
“If I see anything out of the way, I take care of it, and I look at it like if I came in as a customer, what would I want? What would I like? So that’s the standard I keep it at,” said Copeland.
