PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A free STOP THE BLEED class Friday at the Perry branch of Houston County Public Libraries will teach people how to respond to life-threatening bleeding during an emergency.
The class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the library, located at 1201 Washington St.
Instructor Kevin Beck says the classes are offered as a community service. Anyone 15 or older can register, and no medical experience is required.
Participants will learn how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and practice using direct pressure, wound packing, pressure dressings and tourniquets.
According to an American College of Surgeons overview of the course, the program combines instruction with hands-on practice using real equipment.
Each attendee will receive a certificate of completion that can be used for personal records, résumés or professional training requirements. Attendees will also be entered into monthly drawings for a bleeding control kit valued at $75.
