Only direction up for winless Southwest Patriots

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – In 2013, the Southwest Patriots were unable to win a single game while accumulating 10 losses. In his second year, head football coach Joe Dupree knows there’s no other direction to go but up.

“We had a really good spring,” Dupree said, “[They’ve] been coming this summer faithfully, consistently… continue to work hard and get better.”

The Patriot offense was held to under 10 points a total of 7 times, were shutout twice, and ultimately only averaged just a little more than 9 points per game. In order to make an attempt at generating some extra offense, Coach Dupree plans on attempting a two-headed quarterback system with Justin Slocumb and Tyree White, “Tyree is going to be all over the place… he’s going to be a receiver, quarterback, running back… score some points, best of what we can.”

The Patriots will have 6 defensive starters back from last year, on a unit that gave up nearly 40 points a game. Despite those previous struggles, Dupree feels he still has a strength to build upon, “The defensive line… definitely a strength. [Defensive linemen] Nahum Williams and Dalvin Andrews.”

Even after coming off a 2013 without any wins for his first year as head coach, Dupree knows keeping a positive perspective will be the key first step into developing a winning program, “Once we start winning, and they see our hard work and how much we’re having, they’ll be excited to come out and play.”

Southwest’s first game will be August 29th, versus Northeast at Henderson Stadium.
