One person dead after I-75 crash in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An accident on I-75 South near the Hartley Bridge Road exit left one person dead Friday afternoon. Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says 90-year-old Mary Virginia Frum was driving a Honda Accord, when she braked.

That caused 26-year-old Stacey Byrd to hit Frum’s car from behind. The Honda swerved off the road, into a wooded area and hit a tree. Frum was pronounced dead at the scene. Byrd suffered minor injuries.

Lieutenant Randy Gonzalez advises drivers to be careful this time of year.

“We know that with Memorial Day weekend, it’s going to bring higher volume of traffic on the roadways, on the main roads, on the interstate,” said Lt. Gonzalez.

AAA says Memorial Day traffic will be at it’s highest level this weekend since 2005.

“Be alert, watch out for the other drivers, slow down,” said Lt. Gonzalez. “There’s no need to be in a hurry to get to your destination.”
