Oglethorpe sets midnight curfew for homecoming weekend
The October 23-25 curfew prohibits large gatherings and loitering after midnight within city limits. Violators could face fines or arrest.

OGLETHORPE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Oglethorpe will have a citywide midnight curfew during homecoming weekend October 23-25, according to a notice shared on Facebook by Mayor Jimmy Daniels Jr. on Monday.
The notice says large gatherings and loitering will not be permitted within city limits after midnight.
Anyone out after curfew must be traveling directly to or from a “pre-approved or planned establishment or event,” according to the notice, and violators could face fines or arrest. The notice does not say when the curfew ends each morning.
Macon County’s homecoming football game against Crawford County is Friday, October 23.
The announcement comes as nearby Vienna begins a citywide curfew following a mass shooting at a neighborhood block party that killed two people and injured 35 others early Sunday. So far, no arrests have been made.
Vienna’s emergency declaration took effect at noon Monday and lasts 72 hours, through noon Thursday, unless rescinded, modified or extended.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Dooly County deputies were patrolling the block party when shots were fired around 1:25 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block of Pine Street.
The shooting followed Dooly County’s homecoming festivities. The Dooly County School System said the gathering where the shooting happened was not a school-sponsored event.
The weekend before, 12 teenagers were shot at a large gathering at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon early September 27, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff David Davis said that gathering involved an 18-year-old girl’s birthday celebration. The group gathered near the park’s skate park after an Airbnb owner in Jones County told them to leave because people had firearms, Davis said. Five people have been arrested in connection with that shooting.
Both shootings remain under investigation.
