Neighbors plan on working together to keep new park looking nice
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –
Filmore Thomas park is set to open in Macon on the city’s Westside of town next month.
Years in the making, people said a bunch of empty promises, and a relentless effort to make it happen from Macon-Bibb County Commissioner Al Tillman, Filmore Thomas Park is almost done.
Tillman said, “Young people and the seniors are going to love it. So now it’s one of the most beautiful parks in Macon and Bibb County and people are going to really love it.”
James Goodrum, who is with the Greenbriar Neighborhood Association, he said the park looks great, “Very excited over it because the location and proximity to where I live.”
Many people said, the 1.7 million dollar park is a beauty. There is a walking trial, splash pad, playground and basketball courts.
Residents plan on forming a special group to keep the park looking beautiful well after it opens.
Goodrum, “Naturally we want to keep it up and the kids can feel safe while they are here.”
Near the park on Log Cabin Drive workers are busy doing construction to make things safer for pedestrians and motorist. A new pedestrian bridge, sidewalks and some of the road is being paved.
There’s also a push for a recreation center to be built if new SPLOST money is approved be voters. Goodrum explained, “Because all your recreation centers have gyms and having one here would be great.”
A community being proactive, the city’s Westside getting improvements and something beautiful they can use for many years to come.
The park was built with SPLOST money.
Friends of Filmore Park also want to start a non-profit group so can they accept donations to be used on the park.
