NASCAR driver David Ragan helps Dooly County families in need

UNADILLA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Around 400 Dooly County families received food and personal care items Saturday free of charge.

The giveaway was made possible by Feed the Children and the Lord’s Pantry, sponsored by Vienna Methodist Church. NASCAR driver David Ragan, who’s from Unadilla, was also a sponsor and was there Saturday.

“Traveling all over the country, I’ve told everyone, ‘Hey I’m from Dooly County, I’m from Unadilla,’ Ragan says. A lot of people didn’t really know where that was at. I know there’s a lot of families that need some help that live around that poverty line or a little under, certainly in Dooly County, so we reached out to a lot of the churches and surrounding towns here and had a lot of great people really help us out identifying these families. Obviously Feed the Children boxed up a great big semi-truck full of personal care items and food and Avon products, and so we were able to put this deal together to come down and have some fun and help out a lot of needy families.”

Twenty-nine percent of Dooly County families live below the poverty line.
