Monroe County deputies find man dead after SWAT standoff during domestic dispute
According to a Monroe County Sheriff's Office news release, deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on Cronic Street just before 6:30 p.m.

MONROE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 57-year-old man was found dead Saturday night after barricading himself inside a closet with a gun during a domestic dispute in Monroe County.
According to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on Cronic Street just before 6:30 p.m.
When deputies arrived, they learned the man, identified as Allen West, had locked himself inside a closet with a firearm. Due to the threat to public safety, the Monroe County SWAT team was called to the scene.
Deputies tried to reach West using both a phone and a loudspeaker, according to the release. After getting no response, tear gas was deployed and the SWAT team entered the home.
Once inside, deputies found West in the closet, dead from what the release says appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The incident remains under investigation.
