Middle Georgia middle school athletes shine at state track meet
Athletes from across the area competed against nearly 2,000 participants from more than 180 schools.

LILBURN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A group of middle school track and field athletes from across Middle Georgia turned heads at the Georgia Middle School State Championships, delivering multiple podium finishes and a state title.
According to coach Hoy Thurman III of Intensity Athletics, the group competed against nearly 2,000 athletes representing more than 180 schools statewide.
Thurman says the girls relay teams led the performances, earning podium finishes in all three events. The 4×200-meter relay team won the state championship, while the 4×100 team placed second and the 4×400 team finished third.
On the boys side, Thurman says the 4×800-meter relay team placed fourth.
Individually, Olivia-Rose Moreau of Byron Middle School won the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 10.5 inches.
The team included athletes from multiple schools across 41NBC’s viewing area, including Houston County, Peach County and Bibb County.
Thurman says several of the athletes competed in local county championships earlier in the week before traveling to the state meet.
