MGA men beat AUM in overtime

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (MGA ATHLETICS) – The Knights survived an upset bid by the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) War Hawks (12-10, 6-6 SSAC) with Ryan Wilkins (JR/Savannah, GA) tipping in the last shot in regulation then the game-winning layup in overtime to give the team a 91-90 win and push their record to 11-6 overall and 9-3 in SSAC.  The win holds the Knights in 2nd place in the SSAC trailing 10-2 William Carey who defeated Bethel 108-92 Thursday night.

Ryan Wilkins led the Knights with a game-high 22 points including hitting 5 of his first 6 attempts from 3-point range as well as the shot that sent the game to overtime and game-winner.  Back-to-back SSAC Player of the Week, Kieston Standfield (JR/Birmingham, AL) earned his 9th double-double of the season with 17 points (15 in the second half and OT) and 12 rebounds.  Pat Edmonds (JR/Birmingham, AL) scored 14 points for the Knights and Marques Hinton (FR/Atlanta. GA) added 12 to give the Knights 4 players in double-digits.  Buddy Bivins (SR/Warner Robins HS) led the team in assists with 5.

The win makes 3-in-a-row for the Knights who will look to extend that as they travel back to Montgomery on Saturday to face Faulkner University at 5PM Eastern (4 C).  The Knight will be on the road until February 18th when they return home to host AUM in Morris Gym then on the 20th to host Faulkner.  The Knights will play their last home game on Wednesday the 24th against Voorhees College before closing the season at Dalton State on the 27th.
