Mercer softball wins Mercer Invitational
The Bears led 4-0 in the second inning before a five-run frame by JSU gave the Gamecocks the 5-4 edge. Trailing 6-4 in the top of the fourth, Mercer took its second lead of the day after Natalie Shiver’s three-run home run. The Bears added four more runs in the frame to take an 11-6 lead.
Emma Andrew’s RBI single in the fifth and a run off a JSU throwing error in the seventh capped the day’s scoring.
Mercer’s Riley Carter, who was named tournament MVP, allowed just two hits through five innings.
The Bears finished the tournament 4-1 with wins over Valparaiso (twice), IPFW and Jacksonville State. Their only loss came to Jacksonville State Saturday.
