Mercer basketball to play in first ever Savannah Invitational
MACON, Georgia (MERCER ATHLETICS) – The Mercer University men’s basketball program will spend Thanksgiving weekend in Savannah, Ga., to play in the first annual Savannah Invitational.
The Bears are one of eight teams in the competitive field, joining Akron, Air Force, East Carolina, Georgia Southern, Stetson, Radford and Florida A&M.
Each team will play four games in the Invitational – the first two at on-campus sites and the final two rounds at the Savannah Civic Center November 25 and 26th. The Bears will open the invite with a pair of games in Macon at Hawkins Arena. The Orange and Black will host Georgia Southern on Sunday, Nov. 20 and then welcome Radford on Tuesday, Nov. 22. The times for the two games will be announced at a later date.
Mercer then travels to Savannah for the final two games of the invite over the Thanksgiving weekend. The Bears square off against East Carolina at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25. The winner of the game will face the winner of the Akron vs. Air Force game that follows on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
The Bears are no stranger to success in holiday tourneys, as the squad captured the 2015 title at the Challenge in Music City after going 3-0 in Nashville last season.
