Mercer hires women’s golf coach

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Mercer has a new women’s golf coach.

Athletic director Jim Cole announced the school has hired Michele Drinkard Monday, according to a school release.

Drinkard is a 12-year head coaching veteran who spent the last eight seasons at Ole Miss. Before her time in Oxford, Mississippi, she led the Birmingham Southern program for four years.

Her teams have made seven NCAA appearances.

Mercer returns five of its top six players next season and will also bring in a new recruiting class that includes four players ranked in the top 100 by Golfweek and Sagarin.

Gary Guyer resigned in April after seven seasons.
