Mercer beats Alcorn State 68-43 for best start since joining Division 1

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Mercer men’s basketball team is now 8-1, its best start since joining Division I in 1973.

The Bears jumped out to a 36-17 lead Saturday at halftime against Alcorn State (0-7) and went on win 68-43.

Sophomore Demetre Rivers led the way with 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Stephon Jelks and senior Jestin Lewis each added 10 points.

Mercer, which is 5-0 this season at Hawkins Arena, plays its next four games on the road, starting with a December 15 matchup at Auburn.
