Meet the District 2, Post 1 Perry City Council candidates

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – In just a few weeks, the empty District 2, Post 1 seat on Perry City Council will be filled. 

How well do you know the two candidates running?

Robert Jones was born and raised in Perry.

“I went to Perry Elementary, Perry Middle School, Perry High School… graduating in the class of 2002,” said Jones.

He’s the Youth Pastor at Grace Church in Perry. He believes the experiences he’s shared with these teens prepared him for a role on City Council.

“As important as it is to pass legislation that makes a difference in people’s lives, I think, at the end of the day, what’s really most important about being a public servant, is being there for people,” explained Jones. 

Jones has big plans if elected. Specifically, he wants to help lower tax rates. 

“I would love to see that sewage multiplier capped so that it could lessen the burden on the tax payers, but in order to accomplish that, we have to have more revenue in the city,” said Jones.

The other candidate, Mia Geiger, is originally from Warner Robins. Her father was in the Air Force. She’s lived in Perry for 17 years. 

“I love Perry. They’ve adopted me. They’ve taken me on as their own,” explained Geiger. 

As a small business owner and mother, Geiger feels she would bring a new perspective to City Council. 

“I think people can relate to me,” said Geiger. 

If elected, she plans to create more parks and businesses, while preserving Perry’s heritage. 

“I really want to balance business grown that has sustainable salaries, with the heritage and the Downtown feel of Perry. There is a delicate balance there and I understand that,” explained Geiger. 

Jones and Geiger will face off in the November 4th election. This is to fill the unexpired term of Joe Posey who resigned in August for personal family reasons, according to Perry Mayor, James Faircloth.
