Mayhem completes weekend sweep of Ice Gators

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana (MAYHEM RELEASE) – So nice, they did it twice.

For the second game in as many days, the Macon Mayhem defeated the Louisiana Ice Gators 4-1 on Sunday in Louisiana.

The victory is the fourth straight for Macon and fifth in the last six games. It was the second time in less than 24 hours the Mayhem won in Louisiana by the identical score.

Sunday’s game took a different route than Saturday, when Louisiana scored a late goal to ruin Macon’s shutout bid. On Sunday, the Ice Gators’ Geordie Wudrick opened the scoring and had the only goal of the first period at 4:13.

Lucas LaBelle tied it for the Mayhem at 17:02 of the second period. The Mayhem took deadly aim at Louisiana goalie Brad Barone in the third period. They scored two goals on only three shots against Barone and sealed the win with an empty net goal, making it three goals on four shots in the period.

Matt Robertson broke the tie with an unassisted goal at 11:56. Ryan Michel scored a power play goal just 46 seconds later and Jake Trask capped the scoring with the empty net goal with 33 seconds left.

Trask had assisted on Michel’s power play goal. He has 10 points on four goals and six assists in four games with the Mayhem.

The Mayhem play at Knoxville Tuesday and Fayetteville Thursday before returning home Friday to face Louisiana.
