Man dies after being hit by train

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man is dead after being hit by a train near Poplar Street and 5th Street late Monday morning.

Keith Loyd, 46, was identified as the victim by the Bibb County Coroner’s Office.

According to Lonnie Miley, with the Bibb County Coroner’s office, a passing by train noticed a body by the side of the railroad and called it in. The call to authorities went out around 10:52 a.m..

As of now, it is believed Loyd was struck around 10:32 a.m. by a train, previous to the one that reported the body, close to the tunnel located near Lower Poplar Street.

The Sheriff’s Office has yet to determine why the man was on or near the tracks, and an autopsy will be performed at the GBI Crime Lab in Macon sometime in the next few days.
