Man arrested after gas station fire

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man is under custody after swerving off the road, hitting a Circle K gas pump and causing a fire early this morning.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Linda Howard said Howard McKinney, 30, is facing a DUI charge after crashing his silver 2014 Toyota Camry into a gas pump at Circle K on Northside Drive.

Macon-Bibb Fire Department’s investigator Lieutenant Ben Gleaton said the fire department responded to the call at 1:52 AM, but Bibb County deputies were first on the scene after seeing the incident occur.

Cpl. Howard said Deputy Scott Rickert and Sgt. Steve Draper responded to the scene after hearing a loud noise. Deputy Rickert helped the store clerk, who was the only one working at the time, get out of the store after being trapped.

McKinney tested positive after taking a breathalyzer  test and was taken under custody.
