Macon Habitat for Humanity building two homes in Lynmore Estates

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon Area Habitat for Humanity is building two new homes in Lynmore Estates. The non-profit applied for funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and was awarded more than $200,000 to build the homes.

Macon-Bibb County Commissioners approved the deal Tuesday.

“It is so important for families to feel secure and feel safe and feel confident about where they’re living,” Macon Area Habitat Executive Director, Ivey Hall said.

The homes will be built on Worsham Avenue.

“Worsham Avenue is the last street in Lynmore Estates that we have not touched yet so this is an opportunity for us to reach one of the outliers in the neighborhood.

Hall says there are seven properties on Worsham Avenue that are covered in bamboo that contractors need to clear. For now, two homes will be built on that property but Hall hopes, eventually, Habitat will build four.

A single-mom with three kids will live in one of the homes.

Grady Lowe owns Motion Automotive & Machine LLC – it’s right down the road from where the homes will be built.

“I can win, people can feel more comfortable coming on down here, feeling more safe,” Lowe said. “The neighborhood has improved, got a whole lot better over the years.”

Habitat’s announcement of building two new homes adds to the almost 50 the non-profit has built in Lynmore Estates since 2005.

“Habitat coming in, stepping up they’re doing a great job, I’m all for it,” Lowe said.

It’s another step in what’s been 12 year project for Habitat.
