Twelve plead guilty in Macon federal drug and firearms trafficking case

FBI agents seized 26 firearms, including a machine gun, during a two-year investigation into a cocaine distribution network.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Twelve people have pleaded guilty in a federal drug and firearms case tied to a Macon-based trafficking organization uncovered through a two-year FBI investigation known as Operation Mobile Order.

According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia, the investigation dismantled an armed drug trafficking network that operated a cocaine distribution “trap house” on Richard Street in Macon and led to the seizure of 26 firearms, including a machine gun.

“Operation Mobile Order broke up an active armed drug ring operating in Macon and Central Georgia,” U.S. Attorney William R. ‘Will’ Keyes said in a statement. “Through strategic coordination and joint action, we are shutting down criminal enterprises threatening the safety of our communities.”

Federal prosecutors say the organization distributed kilograms of cocaine throughout Central Georgia and operated the Richard Street location in shifts, comparing the setup to a retail storefront.

“Operation Mobile Order dismantled a violent drug trafficking organization that treated a Macon neighborhood like a retail storefront for cocaine, backed by an arsenal of firearms,” said Paul Brown, special agent in charge of the FBI Atlanta.

According to court documents, the FBI conducted nine controlled drug purchases during the investigation and intercepted phone calls and text messages detailing cocaine transactions involving an Atlanta supplier. Prosecutors say Reese led the organization and coordinated large-scale drug purchases using coded language.

In November 2023, agents executed 11 federal search warrants in Macon, Warner Robins and Atlanta, seizing cocaine, firearms and more than $93,000 in cash. The machine gun was recovered from a home on Williamson Road in Macon.

All defendants face lengthy federal prison sentences, with some facing up to life in prison. Sentencing dates will be scheduled by the court. Federal cases do not allow parole.
