Head-on crash in Macon County leaves one dead

Troopers say one driver crossed the center line, causing the crash along Georgia 26.

MACON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — One person is dead after a head-on crash early Saturday morning in Macon County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Troopers say the crash happened around 3 a.m. on Saturday along Georgia 26 near mile marker 16.

According to GSP, a westbound Honda Accord crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound Chevrolet Caprice. The driver of the Caprice, who has not been identified, died at the scene.

The driver of the Honda was taken to Atrium Health Navicent in Macon with serious injuries.

The Georgia Department of Public Safety’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene, and the crash remains under investigation.
