New details emerge in proposed north Macon Costco project
Planning documents outline a proposed 158,000-square-foot warehouse, fuel center and nearly 900 parking spaces near Bass Road.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A rezoning request tied to a proposed Costco development in north Macon is scheduled to go before the Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning Commission next month, according to newly posted agenda documents.
Draft agenda documents for the June 22 Planning and Zoning hearing show Costco Wholesale Corporation has filed a rezoning application for property at 1990 Bass Road and 5384 New Forsyth Road near Wesleyan Drive.
According to the filing, the proposal includes:
- a 158,000-square-foot Costco warehouse
- fuel center with 32 fueling positions
- 873 parking spaces
- three proposed driveways for customer access
The application requests rezoning the roughly 27-acre property from Planned Development Mixed-Use and Agriculture to Highway Commercial zoning.
Project documents included with the filing say the site is located near the intersection of New Forsyth Road and Wesleyan Drive and approximately half a mile north of Interstate 75.
A project narrative included in the application says the proposed development would include a “prototypical Costco warehouse, fuel facility and parking lot.”
41NBC previously reported in 2023 that Planning and Zoning was considering a broader mixed-use development proposal called Riverside Centre for the area, which included plans for a wholesale club, restaurants, retail stores and office space.
Earlier this year, Macon-Bibb County Government announced on social media that Costco construction was expected to begin in 2026 with an anticipated opening in 2027.
The Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to consider the rezoning request during its June 22 hearing.
