Chase after bike robbery leads deputies onto elementary school campus

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An 18-year-old has been arrested after deputies say he robbed someone at gunpoint Friday afternoon and led deputies on a foot chase near an elementary school.

According to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release, the robbery happened just before 1:30 p.m. on Second Street near Ash Street.

Deputies say the suspect pointed a gun at the victim and stole a mountain bike before fleeing. Deputies say they later spotted him, and he abandoned the bike and ran.

The chase partially moved onto the campus of Ingram-Pye Elementary School, which led to the school temporarily being placed on lockdown as a precaution, according to the release.

Deputies say they saw the suspect discard a firearm during the chase. They later recovered the weapon and determined it had been stolen.

The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Timothy Josiah Black of Macon. According to deputies, Black is charged with theft by receiving stolen property and armed robbery. He’s being held without bond.
