Macon-Bibb Departments compete for bragging rights in Wellness Day ‘decathlon’

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Time to hit the beach for memorial day weekend isn’t here just yet, but Macon-Bibb departments hit the beach a little early.

Public works and other departments met at Sandy Beach Park early this morning as they competed against one another in activities from relays to tug of war.

They weren’t celebrating the holiday, but they were celebrating something else–wellness.

Public Works director Marvin Land says because their day to day jobs are so physical, Wellness Day means more than a little friendly competition.

“Our day to day job requires a lot of mobility, we’re in the sun, extreme heat and in the extreme cold so we need to be fit,” said Land.

This year’s competition for bragging rights and the a trophy was nearly a tie between public works and the solid waste department. In the end, Land was proud to say his department took home the gold.
