Macon-Bibb commissioner focused on fixing up Kings Park neighborhood

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One Macon-Bibb commissioner is looking to fix up a blighted area of town.

Commissioner Elaine Lucas says she and other leaders need go shift their focus to the Kings Park area in Bibb County. Lucas says she often meets with residents in the area who want to clean up the streets, but don’t have the means.

She adds what used to be a nice neighborhood, now looks like a “war zone.”

“What I was trying to do was to bring the attention of the full commission to that community, and then we’d start making a concerted effort to raise the level, standard of living for those people living in that distressed area,” Lucas said.

She says she’d like to see utilities restored to the neighborhood’s community center, as well as dealing with abandoned homes in the area.

County leaders say community development block grants, or bonds from the county’s blight task force could be used to address some of the area’s issues.
