Macon band “Good Night Alive” needs votes to compete for record deal in VH1 contest
“That is one of the first songs I wrote for this project, Good Night Alive,” said band front man, Zack Horton.
Horton’s referring to the group’s original song, “Playing a Part.” It may just be the sound to make GNA a nationwide name.
“We made the video and posted it, and we were thinking, if anything, it’d just be good for people to see it. So we posted it without thinking anything was going to happen,” said GNA guitarist, Bobby McCullough.
He’s talking about a 15 second Instagram video GNA put together. It stood out among more than 2,000 entries in VH1’s “Make a Band Famous” contest.
Now, GNA is one of 60 acts hoping to make it to the big apple for a 24 hour live streaming contest, which could ultimately land them a record deal with Republic Records.
Horton tells 41NBC, of course, he’s thought about fame, but it’s not something he’s ever needed.
“It’s what I’ve always hoped and believed that would happen. So it’s not unexpected, but at the same time, it’s very humbling,” said Zack.
Humbling for a band who’s only been together for a year, and played just a handful of times live.
“It’s going to be a huge jump going from three shows in Macon to maybe a hundred people that know us to New york city,” said Bobby.
So why do Horton and McCullough believe their music struck a cord with VH1 producers? It might be the genre.
“Indie-electronic-rock,” that’s how Bobby describes the group’s sound.
Another reason? Drummer Jessie Horton, keyboardist Matt Spinks, bassist, Nick Crumpton, singer/guitarist Zack Horton, and guitarist McCullough all string a piece of themselves together to make their sound come alive.
“We all write our individual parts,” said Bobby.
“We just love doing this, so we’ll just keep doing in until we can’t anymore,” said Zack.
