Macon Bacon to host home playoff game Wednesday

Team owner says community support has played a major role in the season as Macon prepares to host a home playoff game

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Bacon are heading back to the Coastal Plain League’s Petitt Cup Playoffs for the first time in four years, and the organization says the moment is about more than just baseball.

The team will host a home playoff game Wednesday night, marking a major milestone after building momentum throughout the summer.

Owner Brandon Raphael says what has stood out most this season is how quickly the team came together.

“Jessie [Litsch], our head coach, has done such an incredible job getting guys ready to play every day,” he said. “35 players who didn’t really know each other before the season started. The way they’ve played this summer, especially at home, has been absolutely incredible.”

But Raphael says the team’s success is not just about what’s happening on the field.

He credits the community for playing a major role throughout the season, with strong fan support helping fuel the team’s energy.

“Everything we do is for our fans,” he said. “We are a fans first organization, and we believe everything is for them.”

That support, he says, is part of what makes this playoff run special.

“We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for our fans,” Raphael said. “To see the excitement around making the playoffs, how ticket sales are going, and knowing people are coming out to cheer on their Bacon boys, it’s special for us.”

The team will play Forest City on the road Tuesday before returning home for Wednesday night’s playoff game. Game three in the best-of-3 series (if necessary) will also be in Macon on Thursday at 7. Get tickets here.
