Kumho Tire bringing nearly 450 jobs to Middle Georgia

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An international tire company is building a manufacturing plant in Macon. Kumho Tire is bringing 450 jobs to the and could advance macon’s economy.

Representatives for the company say they are making more than a 400-million dollar investment in Middle Georgia.

The new plant will be located off Georgia Highway 247 in Sofkee Industrial Park on Kumho Parkway.

Macon-Bibb county officials say Kumho Tire will also attract other companies to the area.

“This will have a dramatic effect on our entire city and not to mention the tag alone industries and businesses,” said Macon-Bibb Industrial Authority Chairman, Cliffard Whitby. “

Kumho is looking to fill 10 positions immediately, purchasing assistant manager, junior level electrical and machinery engineers, strategic planning assistant manager, accounting and finance manager and general affairs assistant manager.

Jason Ahn, General Manager, Kumho Tire Georgia said they are currently in the construction phase of the project. they are expecting production to begin in 2016.

“Macon-Bibb County was selected as the location of our first North American manufacturing facility for many reasons, but most importantly its strong work force,” said Ahn.

Georgia’s Department of Labor Commissioner, Mark Butler says they will use a new process called “customized recruiting” to help fill the new jobs.

“Which is geared specifically toward this type of project,” said Butler. “To make sure that not only do we get the kind of work force that they will need to be successful but also to be able to do it in a very quick manner.”
