Knights drop 2 on the road at USC-Beaufort

BEAUFORT, S.C. (MGSC ATHLETICS) – The Knights were on the road Tuesday playing at University of South Carolina – Beaufort and the Sand Sharks were able to cool off the bats of the Knights for the first time this season. The Knights have averaged 12.5 runs per game coming in to the doubleheader but scored just 6 runs in two games including their lowest output of the season in game 2 with just 1 run.

The Knights took the early lead in both game 1-0. In game 1, Dusty Jones (JR/Cochran, GA) singled and came around to score on Tay Jerger (JR/Tallahassee, FL)’s sacrifice bunt in the 3rd. The Sand Sharks answered scoring 4 in the bottom of the 3rd. The Knights pulled within on in the 6th getting 2 runs in the top of the inning but a 3 spot in the bottom gave the Sand Sharks a lead of 7-3. The Knights loaded the bases in the top of the 7th with no outs but were only able to push across 2 runs in the inning to lose 7-5.

Game 2 saw the Knights take the lead 1-0 in the top of the 2nd inning Jeremie Little (FR/McDonough, GA) drove in Logan Smith (SO/Mcdonough,GA) with an RBI single. The Knights held the lead for an inning and a half before giving up 2 runs in the 3rd, 4 more in the 4th, and 2 more in the 5th and the Sand Sharks took the lead 8-1. The Knights could not muster up any more hits as four pitchers combined to give up just 1 hit and 2 walks on the game.

Dusty Jones had the best performance of the day in game 1 going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored but did not play in game 2.

The Knights return to action Friday at 3 PM which is a change from the original schedule of 6 PM due to weather concerns as the temperature will be dropping in to the low 40s and upper 30s just after dark. The Knights host William Carey University in the game Friday and again on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 1 PM.
