Jones County sending 3 softball teams to Dixie Youth World Series

GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Jones County’s softball future may be as bright as it’s ever been.

This weekend, three different teams (10U, 8U and 6U) from there will head west to Louisiana to play in the Dixie Youth World Series.

41NBC caught up with the 10U team at practice Monday and talked with a few of them about their run to the World Series.

“Winning the state tournament was so cool,” says 9-year-old Kimber Kent. “I’ve just never been to the World Series before.”

“We always danced and had confidence to play hard,” says 10-year-old Hannah Bass.

“We just always practice harder than other people,” says 10-year-old Shayla Pennington. “He (coach) tells us this quote: ‘Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work.'”

“I think we have a pretty good chance of winning the World Series, because we’ve been in a lot of tournaments, and we’ve won the majority of them,” says 11-year-old Riley Gibson.

The 10 and under team will play in West Monroe, Louisiana. The 8 and under team will also be in West Monroe.

The 6 and under team will be playing about two hours away in Alexandria.

All three teams start play on Saturday.
