Jay’s HOPE Foundation’s Clicks 4 HOPE Celebrates One Year Anniversary
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A middle Georgia non – profit is celebrating the one year anniversary of their new program geared at helping families battling cancer have lasting memories for years to come.
When families learn one of their loved ones has cancer, it can be stressful. Jay’s HOPE Foundation’s Clicks 4 Hope is a program where professional photographers can put their lens on those families, giving them a brief peace of mind, by capturing each moment.
If you’ve never met Lexi Slater, the first thing she’ll let you know is that she loves to smile.
“I’ve been the type of person that loves taking pictures, I jump in anybody’s pictures since I was little, and photo bomb everybody,” Lexi said.
The 17-year-old is battling bone cancer and had to have a titanium knee replacement to remove a tumor.
Her mom, Jennifer, has stood by her side the entire way.
“Alexis lost her hair for the first time, so I cut mine off within an hour, so I found a barber I said hey we gotta get this hair off,” Jennifer said.
Jennifer wanted to find a professional photographer who was able to track her daughter’s journey with cancer.
She found Donna Davis, a wedding photographer who volunteers with Clicks 4 Hope.
That’s a program where families with children battling cancer, can have portrait sessions, to give them lasting memories.
“We hope that they display them on their walls for years and years, for their grandchildren to see and their children,” Davis said.
When Jennifer and her daughter took their pictures, it was special moment for the two of them.
“The pictures mean a lot to us because later on in life we’ll be able to look at the pictures to see the struggles that we went through with the cancer,” Jennifer said.
Lexi is an aspiring model and says the pictures couldn’t have come at a better time.
“Any of you kids out there that have a dream, strive for it, no matter how hard it is, even if you have cancer like me, don’t let this be the milestone you stop at, you have to strive for more, you have to do this, ok, take it from me, take it from me,” Lexi said.
Lexi is 99.9% cancer free, but still has some therapy to go through.
