Hundreds pack small church for Crumps Funeral Service
Funeral Services for Daisy and Luther Crump were held Friday at Ross Temple Baptist Church.
People lined the walls of the church’s sanctuary during the service. Many who came were forced to leave because they could not find a place to sit in the crowded church.
Gregory Griggs was the Crump’s nephew and says the couple left behind a “blue print” of what he and his cousins should instill in their families. Still he says the grief of the Crump’s death is at times overwhelming.
“My aunt and uncle they lived a pretty long fulfilling life. It’s just tragic the way they did past. So I guess that was the most devastating part about the whole situation.”
Macon-Bibb County firefighters fought the blaze on March 28, at the Crump’s home located at 911 Ell Street in Macon.
“When we arrived we pulled one lady from the house,” said Macon-Bibb County Fire Battalion Chief Preston Thomas. “They said it was two people in the house. The gentlemen we found later in a back room.”
Luther Crump, 81, died at the scene, and his wife, Daisy, 81, was pronounced dead at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, the same night.
Fire investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the house fire.
