How to beat the heat this summer
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Protecting yourself from the heat is crucial as the temperatures rise.
We spoke with Dr. Rodrigo Sanchez, an Emergency Room Physician at Coliseum Health. He gave tips on how you can stay safe this summer.
Heat Safety Tips
- Drink lots of water throughout the day
- Seek shade or go back inside if you start to sweat
- Stay away from caffeinated drinks, because they are dehydrating
- Wear sunscreen with a higher SPF when you’re out in the sun
“Especially mother’s with little children, if they’re not acting right, they’re sweating too much, they get a little bit of fatigue, bring them back inside to an air conditioned area if you can,” Dr. Sanchez said. “Hydrate them up with fluids like water, fluids with electrolytes in it. Same thing for the elderly. The elderly are very vulnerable to dehydration.”
