Houston County resting up before state title series appearance

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Houston County’s baseball team is just two wins away from its first state title.

The Bears advanced to the GHSA Class 5A championship series against Whitewater after beating Gainesville in a 3-game series this week.  The Bears and Red Elephants split the first two games, and Tuesday in the decisive Game 3, HoCo won 7-4.

The Bears will start preparing for the Wildcats this weekend, but for now, they’re just chilling.

“We got back late last night,” Jason Brett, head baseball coach says.  “We have finals this week.  We’re going to play on Monday, so today’s a good day to give them kind of a catch their breath day, get their legs back under them, take care of some school work they need to take care of.”

The series was supposed to start Saturday, but that’s the same day as Houston County’s graduation.  The first game has been moved to Monday at 3, with Game 2 to follow.  Game 3, if needed, will be Tuesday at 2.
All three games are at Whitewater High School in Fayetteville.
