Hooked on Science: Sunlight + Balloon = POP!
(41NBC/WMGT) — On this week’s edition of Hooked on Science, Jason Lindsey shows us the power of the sun.
For this experiment, you need a black balloon inflated inside of a clear balloon, then, once the clear balloon is inflated as well, the black balloon should be floating freely inside of it. The next step is to take a magnifying glass and focus a beam of sunlight onto the dark colored balloon. This will create a startling POP!
That darker balloon takes in a lot of the energy from the beam of light, it weakened the rubber part of the balloon and it popped almost instantly– this is why you want to wear white on a hot summer day!
