HoCo rolls over Mary Persons, Jones falls short to Lee

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Georgia quarterback commit Jake Fromm shined on another big stage Thursday night, leading his Houston County Bears to a 26-14 win over Mary Persons in the opening game of the 2016 Corky Kell Classic at Mercer University.

The senior completed 26 of his 36 passes for 414 yards and four touchdowns, all of which were to fellow senior Amari Colbert, who finished with ten catches and 168 receiving yards.

The Bears jumped out to a 26-7 lead at halftime. Despite not scoring any touchdowns in the second half, they did force three interceptions.

Zach Harvey gained 198 rushing yards for Mary Persons, but the Bulldogs couldn’t capitalize on their scoring opportunities when they needed them most, and they couldn’t overcome Fromm’s fast start.

Jones County falls to Lee County

Jones County was held to its lowest scoring output since a 13-12 win over Carver in the first round of the 2014 playoffs.

Lee County’s defense gave up just one touchdown to the Greyhounds, who averaged 35 points a game last season, taking the nightcap 20-13.

The Trojans scored the game’s first touchdown midway through the second quarter and led 10-3 at halftime.
