Hawkinsville celebrates Juneteenth with community events
Festivities at Colson Park will include a softball game, water slides, free food and more.

Hawkinsville, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Hawkinsville celebrated its fifth annual Juneteenth event Friday with free health checks for the local community.
Hosted at St. Thomas AME Church, people came from across Georgia not only for health screenings, but for information on long-term health care, both physical and mental, as well as pet care assistance and a free lunch.
Friday marked only the first day of the celebration. Peggy Williams, a volunteer with the Hawkinsville Unity Group, shared what’s planned for the rest of the weekend.
“Tomorrow morning we’re gonna start right here at St. Thomas Fellowship Hall. There is gonna be a parade, and we’re gonna have grand marshals. We’re gonna have a motorcade going around to Colson Park. And at Colson Park there will be so much going on,” Williams said.
Festivities at Colson Park will include a softball game, water slides, free food and more. The event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Sixth Street and Colson Street in Hawkinsville.
