GSP: Driver of tractor trailer hit, killed in 5-truck crash

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Houston County Coroner confirms one person is dead after a multi-car accident on I-75 near mile marker 131.

All northbound lanes are still closed, but the southbound lanes should open soon.

The Georgia Department of Transportation website says five trucks are involved.

It’s near State Route 26, just south of Exit 134, South Perry Parkway.

Traffic is backed up.

GDOT doesn’t expect the lanes to open again until 2 p.m.

At about 6 a.m. Wednesday, The Georgia State Patrol received a call about two pick-up trucks involved in a rear end collision while driving south on I-75.

One of the drivers was injured and taken to Medical Center, Navicent Health.

Two tractor trailer drivers going north saw the crash and stopped on either side of the northbound lanes.

A FedEx truck going north on the east shoulder hit the tractor trailer that had stopped in the rear.

The FedEx truck jackknifed and hit another tractor trailer that was going north in the middle lane.

The tractor trailer driver of the first truck that had initially pulled to the side after seeing the wreck, was outside of the truck.

The FedEx truck hit and killed him.

The FedEx truck driver was injured and went to a hospital in Perry.

Charges are pending, and the GSP Specialized Reconstruction Team is conducting a follow-up investigation.

The GSP will release the names of those involved as soon as they can.
