Grand jury indicts suspect in Cobb County couple slaying

McRae, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The man accused of killing a Marietta couple in Telfair County was formally charged with the crime.

Telfair County District Attorney Timothy Vaughn tells 41NBC a grand jury indicted Ronnie “Jay” Towns on Monday. He’s charged with a total of eight counts, including murder, felony murder, and armed robbery.

Towns’ arraignment is scheduled for June.

The Telfair County Sheriff’s Office says Towns shot 69-year-old Elrey “Bud” Runion and his 66-year-old wife June in January. The Cobb County couple drove to Telfair County to check out a car they saw on Craigslist.

Their bodies and SUV were found in a lake. The GBI also found pieces of possible evidence, including guns and personal items investigators believe belongs to the Runions.
