Graduation rate increases for Bibb County Schools

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Big news for the Bibb County School District. The graduation rate has increased by almost 6 percentage points in the last year.

In 2016, the district had 71.6% rate, and for 2017, it was at 77 %. This is information from the Georgia Department of Education.

Bibb County School superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones says it’s been a work in progress.

“I think principals and teachers and students have worked very hard,” said Dr. Jones. “We’re very thankful for the parents that have trusted us with their students over this entire period of time. I feel as if the work that we’ve been doing is starting to show.”

The percentage rate has gone up since 2012 when it was at 52%. Dr. Jones says he gives credit to teachers and faculty for shaping students’ minds.

The goal is to have an 80% rate by 2025.
