GMC softball lands 4 on all-region team
Sophomore pitcher Brittany Rosenberry was named to the All-Region 17/GCAA first team while freshman third baseman Kirsten Albright, freshman left fielder Sara Alderman and freshman catcher Courtney Kenney were named to the All-Region 17/GCAA second team after leading GMC to an impressive 32-23 record and third-place regular-season finish in the region.
Rosenberry finished with an 18-12 record and a sparkling earned-run-average of 2.17 in the circle.
The 18 wins also set a single-season record by a GMC player.
Rosenberry, who will continue her education and playing career at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, also helped herself at the plate with one home run, 11 RBI, four doubles and nine walks in just 54 at-bats.
Albright, who missed the final seven games after breaking her hand on April 15, led GMC starters with a .367 batting average with six home runs and 28 RBI (third best on the team) while striking out just three times in 109 at-bats.
Albright tied for the team lead with 13 walks and was third on the team in doubles with 12. Albright also played a solid third base for GMC and committed just six errors in 119 total chances at the hot corner.
Alderman anchored the outfield defense for GMC and batted .346 with 19 RBI, including seven doubles and a triple, and swiped a team-high 17 bases for the Bulldogs.
Kenney was rock solid behind the plate and played in 52 of GMC’s 55 games while batting .331 with three homers and 26 RBI.
Kenney led GMC with 37 runs scored and her 14 doubles ranked second on the team while her 10 walks were third-best on the team.
Kenney also committed just six errors in 205 total chances and fielded at a .971 clip while throwing out 14 would-be base stealers during the season.
Rosenberry and Kenney were also named to the 2015 All-Tournament team as GMC finished fourth in the Region 17/GCAA double-elimination championship this past weekend in Locust Grove, Ga.
