Georgia takes No. 1 spot in first College Football Playoff rankings

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Dawgs are on top–at least for now.

The College Football Playoff committee placed Georgia at No. 1 in its first rankings of the season Tuesday over Alabama, Notre Dame and Clemson.

The Dawgs (8-0, 5-0 SEC) host South Carolina (6-2, 4-2 SEC) Saturday at 3:30.

Oklahoma is the first team outside the top four, followed by Ohio State, Penn State, and TCU.  Two unbeaten teams, Wisconsin and Miami, round out the top ten.

Auburn, which announced Tuesday running back Kamryn Pettway will miss the next several weeks with a broken shoulder blade, is 14th. Mississippi State is 16th, LSU is 19th and current ACC Atlantic Division leader NC State is 20th.

The final rankings will be released December 3 at noon.
